Hospital Services
SSO holds contracts with Mahosot, Setthatirath, in Vientiane province) hospital. Besides this, a contract with Savannakhet hospital is under preparing. The insured persons can receive the services from the selected hospital any times or in case of emergency, all SSO members can approach the next located hospital (but the selected hospital and SSO must be informed).
Approach on using Out-patient Service (OPD) or Emergency Service (ER)
Step 1: At the hospital reception desk, the SSO patient (member or family member) will have to present the following
SSO membership card and staff's ID card (for the SSO member only).
Family members (spouse or child) of insured persons have to present in addition the SSO membership card the family book.
Furthermore, the patient has to take his personal disease diagnostic book, if it is not stored at the hospital. In case, the patient visits the hospital for the first time, a new diagnostic book will be issued. Some hospitals offer this free of charge, some charge 5,000 Kip for the book.
Step 2: The hospital's staff will check, whether the patient is registered with the hospital as authorized SSO beneficiary. If so, the hospital's staff stamps and signs the diagnostic book. The patient will be referred to the waiting area to see the doctor.
Step 3: The patient meets a doctor for medical analysis and treatment. If necessary, the doctor will issue orders or prescriptions such as:
Laboratory tests (blood, etc.)
Imaging (x-ray, ultrasound, CT-scan)
Drugs prescriptions, etc.
Step 4: The patient has to present the drug prescription to hospital pharmacy. The pharmacist prepares the order and calculates the price of the prescribed items.
Step 5: The patient goes back to the receptionist in order to get the physical check orders (imagine, laboratory) or the by the pharmacist prepared prescription order stamped and signed.
Step 6: Finally, the patient can get the drugs at pharmacy without payment and go home. In case of physical checks he/she will see the doctor again.
In case the patient has to stay at hospital over night (IPD)
Step 4-IP: Severe deceases and accidents require more medical surveillance than just a short doctor’s visit. If required, the doctor refers the patient after a first check directly to a specialized in-patient ward of the hospital or makes an appointment for an inpatient stay at a later stage. For this purpose, the doctor issues an inpatient referral letter.
Step 5-IP: The patient presents the referral letter to the receptionist to be stamped and another time to the responsible nurse of the inpatient ward.
Step 6-IP: After discharge, the patient passes a last time at the reception to get the discharge letter stamped.
