Maternity Benefit
A newborn child is a very valuable contribution to the society. SSO share the happiness of the parents and also acknowledges the burden of the pregnancy and delivery with a maternity benefit and a childbirth grant.
Therefore, an insured woman on maternity leave receives the maternity benefit for three months after delivery. This benefit is not only eligible after childbirth, but also after miscarriage from the 180 th day of pregnancy onwards and after child adoption for babies under the age of one.
The maternity benefit is equal to 100% of the insured earnings (see also: maximum insurable income, and is effective for a period of 3 months, starting with the date of childbirth. If, in excess of the 3-month period, the insured person is unable to return to work for medical reasons, she will then be entitled to a sickness benefit under the conditions described in the section on Sickness Benefit.
Qualifying period to receive Maternity Benefit
To receive the Maternity benefit, a minimum of 9 months contributions have to be paid to SSO within the last 12 months prior to the delivery.
Childbirth Grant
The childbirth grant is offered to the family of the newborn. Unimportant whether a female insured person or the wife of an insured person gives birth to a child, the family is entitled to the childbirth grant. The grant is equal to 60% of the minimum salary set by the Government for the private sector and will be paid per child. The payment of the grant will also be released for births, which take place outside the country.
The Childbirth Grant is also receivable for child adoption for babies less than one year of age. However, it can only be applied for cases, where no childbirth
grant has already been paid for the adopted baby.
Qualifying period for Childbirth Grant
To be entitled to Childbirth Grant, a minimum of 12 months contributions have to be paid to SSO within the last 18 months prior to the delivery or child adoption.
